Aging of wood - Analysis of color changes during natural aging and heat treatment - Running title : Color changes due to ageing and heat treatment

چکیده
The color properties of aging wood samples from historical buildings have been compared with those of recent wood samples that were heat treated at temperatures ranging from 90 to 180°C. The results of kinetic analysis obtained by the time-temperature superposition method showed that the color change during natural aging was mainly due to a slow and mild oxidation process. In other words, heat treatment could accelerate the changes in wood color that occur during aging. In one sample, the color change (ΔE*ab) after 921 years at ambient temperature was almost equivalent to that of heating (artificial aging) approximately for 6.7 h at 180°C. The results has been interpreted that the aging and the subsequent change in wood color begin at the time of tree harvesting. ha l-0 07 02 70 6, v er si on 1 31 M ay 2 01 2 Author manuscript, published in "Holzforschung 65, 3 (2011) 361-368" DOI : 10.1515/HF.2011.040

Evaluation of the aging wood from historical buildings as compared with the accelerated aging wood and cellulose -Analysis of color properties-
Color changes of wood during natural aging and during heat treatment were elucidated to determine whether they could be explained as the result of a mild thermal oxidation process at ambient temperatures. The results of kinetic analysis employing the time-temperature superposition method showed that the color changes during natural aging were mainly the result of an oxidation process. Color cha...
متن کاملPerformance Characterization of Coatings on Treated-wood
Coating performance is greatly influenced by the properties of the wood substrate. This study was focused on evaluating the performance of coatings on both preservative- and thermally-treated wood. A number of commercially formulated semi-transparent stains Alkyd, Alkyd-Acrylic and PU were applied on four different types of preservative treated and heat-treated wood and their performances were ...
متن کاملEvaluating the Role of antioxidants in the stabilization of hydroxypropyl cellulose by ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy
This study is aimed at evaluating the performance of tetrakismethylene-3-3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl propionate methane S1010, tris2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl phosphite S1680 and ascorbic acid AA antioxidants in stabilization of hydroxypropyl cellulose HPC. For this purpose, a number of films with weight percent ratios of 0.4 w/w were prepared in a 1 isopropanol solution w/v. Then, the films ...
متن کاملColor Changes Kinetics and Heat Transfer during Deep Fat Frying of Garlic Slice
Heat and mass transfer phenomena that take place during frying cause physicochemical changes, which affect the colour and surface of the fried products. The effect of frying temperature on the colour changes and heat transfer during deep fat frying of garlic has been investigated. The colour scale parameters redness (a*), yellowness (b*) and lightness (L*), and color change intensity (∆E) were ...
متن کاملModeling and optimization of precipitation hardening heat treatment factors of Al2024 alloy using a two-level full factorial design
In the current study, the sources of variation in the mean hardness value of heat treated aluminum 2024 samples were identified by using metallurgical study and design of experiment methodology (full factorial method). Hardness measurements and microstructural investigations of the samples were carried out using Brinell hardness test and optical microscopy, respectively. The effects of several ...
